Rack and Metrics Information

Exalogic, Its an Engineered System, with an assembly of storage, compute, network, operating system and software products that are integrated, tested, tuned, optimized, delivered and supported by Oracle as a single factory-assembled unit.

Exalogic Rack infomration

COMPUTE NODE:

Compute Node is physical sever which contains two solid state disks (SSDS) which host the operating system images used to boot the node. Each compute node will have 2 CPUs , each CPU has 8 cores. and each core has 2 threads. i.e  2 x 8 x 2 = 32.So every compute node will have 32 threads.

Quarter Rack – Contains 8 Compute Node

Half Rack – Contains 16 Compute Node

Full Rack – Contains 30  Compute Nodes

NODE CORES:

CPUs you see in vServers are threads, as  Exalogic Racks are hyperthreaded , which means we can create 2 threads per core defined in the above table.

Example: Half Rack has 256 Cores, means we can have 512 vCPUS ( threads )

NODE RAM:

Each compute node has 256GB of RAM.

Example: Half Rack has 16 computes nodes, 16 x 256 = 4TB

NODE SSD STORAGE:

Contains operating system for the compute node. vServers do not use this disk.

STORAGE APPLIANCE:

Its the actual hardware component that contains the 2 storage Appliance server heads and 1 storage appliance Disk Tray ( which contains DISK for the appliance ). Every Rack can have just 1 storage appliance.

DISK STORAGE:

We have 60T of space in each rack but only 24T can be used for our services, remaining space is used as mirroring, hotswap, RAID. Storage cannot be expanded in a rack.

What is InfiniBand ?

Standard network architecture desgined for high CPU speeds between nodes in closed proximity to each other. Acts as a fabric to connect to CPUs and other devices. Ideal for supercomputers and datacenters, as it delivers the 40gb/s and it supports direct application connections that bypass the OSS.

Exalogic Training Started :

  • Exalogic – Runs on Hyperwiser Operating System.
  • vServer ~ to OVM ( oracle virtual machine ).
  • vServers runs only on Linux operating system.

    Storage

      vServers

  • vServers are defined using a combination of type/volumes/Networks/distribution groups/Public Keys
  • By default vCPU consumes one CPU hardware thread :  Two vCPUs per core, 32 vCPUs per X3-2 compute node.
  • Distribution groups provide a high availability of vServers.
  • HA compute nodes ( no. of  vServers ) goes down , first the system tries to restart and then if it still fails it will try to migrate to other compute nodes.
